If even a state-progressive, in the process of beating back a silly right-wing point about Resentment of Teh Rich & Successful will admit the following:
For all the talk of welfare and government hand-outs it’s the very rich in this society who benefit most from government spending.
…then I’d argue it is a sign of how lacking in sincerity claims by Dem-leaning politicians and activists to the efficacy of politics for defending The Little Guy are that vastly more effort is spent on keeping such spending going and increasing than exerted on, say, redirecting that money away from people who clearly do not need it.
They say the benefit of concentrated wealth from the power & reach of the state is a point with regard to tax burden. It is also a strike against government itself.
