While we’re on the subject of right-wing inconsistency, a Balloon Juice commenter summed up the conservative view on immigration quite well:
Conservatives want an economic system whereby no one can participate without some form of national govt-sponsored identification.
It makes a nice anti-state Left soundbite of sorts, actually.
On a related note, I’ve always found it amusing how the same people pander to both anti-immigrant types (who largely spout off about illegals using the same type of pseudo-labor argument that Maddox eviscerated forever ago) and interests opposed to organized labor. Needless to say, my view would piss off both in one fell swoop: ditch the distinction, then organize the ex-illegals.
