A thought: if car sales sit stagnant until the government throws in thousands of dollars worth of trade-in credit, then doesn’t that mean the cars were overpriced all along?

Meh…if you ask me buying a brand new car is a humongous screw job regardless.  Adding yet another regular payment to your pile, financing and all, for something that the second you take it home is actually worth less than the sticker price, plus the inevitable repair costs sooner than you think.
